 | French Family Science, Math and Technology Center The French Family Science, Math, and Technology Center opened in fall 2009. An innovative laboratory for learning, the new Center is the first classroom building in the Southwest to be certified LEED* Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council .(*Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) The learning environment of the 70,000-square-foot French Family Center is designed to inspire creativity, collaboration, and motivation. Accommodating Ursuline's current laptop technology and wireless connectivity, the infrastructure also anticipates advances to support future curriculum needs. Features of the new facility include:
- Increased classroom and lab space for science, math, computer science, and world languages, making it possible to also expand curricula in these disciplines
- Ten (10) science laboratories, nine (9) math classrooms, a math lab, three (3) computer science classrooms, nine (9) world language classrooms, a new college counseling suite, and a student chapel
- A sustainable science courtyard serving as an outdoor "classroom" for students learning to be good stewards of natural resources
- New Kiva gathering space to accommodate 200+ students for assemblies, presentations, and other group learning opportunities
- New faculty center providing much-needed offices and meeting space
- New technology center for the CAVE and other student/faculty technology support services.
- Two-story atrium including a Heritage Gallery, media wall, and a restored stained glass window from the chapel of the Old Ursuline Academy on Bryan Street.
- Small meeting areas for group projects, wide hallways, abundant natural light, and common areas in open spaces.
